The Iron Maiden Cricket Team has been playing in the Auckland Cricket Competition for over 10 years. We have won a couple of seasons outright but don’t tell Peter. He still cant remember he took that catch.
We have a core set of players who play each year and a number of “Ring Ins”. In fact there are more “Ring Ins” than core players.
Team Captain
The Team Captain is David Scragg, a.k.a Scraggy, who has held the position for the teams entirety. A good chap is he. Master of the reverse reverse sweep, intelligent like a Elephant, and is known to reverse the order from time to time just to put the shits up the opposition.
Scraggy took over the team captaincy from the previous team “The Moodies”. Only a handful of players come from the historic team, generally the lads over 40. When that team dissipated Scraggy was left standing holding the gear bag, the score board, and a couple of old timers keen to carry on. So he formed a new team out of the fire and steel and named it IRON MAIDEN, that’s right, like the band only more scary. Good bye to “The Moodies” welcome IRON MAIDEN. And so the future started and what a great decade it has been. Wins, losses, beers, ladies, and now kids on the side lines.
